Chile leads Latin America on Index of Economic Freedom

The 2009 Index of Economic Freedom ranks Chile first in Latin America and eleventh in the world for economic freedom. The index places Hong Kong and Singapore as the world's leading economies, whilst Chile's position is just below that of Great Britain.


Total is among the highest in the last 18 years.

Approved foreign investment reaches record US$ 10.4 billion.

The Chilean Economy is able to withstand the global crisis, according to Finance Minister, Andrés Velasco. While several countries expect to deal with recession, Chile's Central Bank has announced an expected 2% to 3% growth in its gross domestic product for 2009.
