Why Chile? The locations selected are areas where it is possible to set up experiments under hydrological stress conditions, which allow for the development of drought-resistant corn. Furthermore, these locations are suitable for regulatory experiments. The Valle de Azapa, located in Arica, allows for the cultivation of multiple crops of corn in one year. Another advantage in Chile's favour is its Agriculture and Livestock Service (Sevicio Agrícola and Ganadero) which regulates phytosanitary standards for production and foreign trade.
"Environmental conditions, institutional framework and support of high technology investments from CORFO-InvestChile are the reasons Chile Monsanto chose to develop this project, which will enhance our global impact and add value to our corporation"
Alfredo Villaseca D., President of the Board, Monsanto Chile.
