Since 2005, the Chilean Economic Development Agency, CORFO, in collaboration with the National Energy Commission (CNE), has developed an Investment Promotion Program for Non-conventional Renewable Energy (NCRE) in the country.
This program offers different economic incentives in order to foster the materialization of NCRE projects. It has achieved a portfolio of over 100 projects, with public financing exceeding US$4.6 million. These projects, currently in different phases of development, are estimated to involve over US$1.5 billion of private investment.
In order to attract foreign investors to the local energy market, CORFO, though its InvestChile Program, has organized International Investment Meetings on Non-conventional Renewable Energy and CDM every year since 2006.
Thanks to these events, local project developers have gained better understanding of this market niche as well as having the opportunity to network with international investors and build partnerships to secure financing for their initiatives.
A fourth Investment Meeting is planned for September 7-8, 2009. This event is open to the public and will bring together hundreds of participants, including a wide range of stakeholders, international carbon trading authorities and organizations, developers of Chilean renewable energy initiatives, and national and foreign investors.
